What if Parkour or playground games aren't for you? Maybe you tried lifting and running and obstacle racing and none of it was for you! What if you don't know what you like or can't enjoy yourself doing anything physical for any number of reasons?

That's okay!

There is a whole world of movement out there and while I'm not an expert in everything I want to help you find something you love to do!

Movement Diet

A big part of finding the right movement for you will involve seeing what you already do! Taking stock of your movement diet! The movement diet is how Biomechanist Katy Bowman talks about movement!

You have everyday movement, things like getting out of bed and even breathing. Things you do the most of. Then you have physical activity walking to work and manual labor fall into this category. Finally she describes exercise as the last level. I would add play and you can add read more about that here

Just like the first step to changing how you eat is seeing what you are eating now the first step of changing how you move is seeing how you move now.

This is important because if you are on your feet gardening all day maybe a walk in the woods isn't something you want to add to your limited amount of time. If you are carrying shingles up a ladder you probably don't want to do farmers carries or olympic lifting.

Taste Testing

After we know what you are currently doing we look at some options and we do two things.

  1. Make sure you are physically capable of starting the activity. We want to encourage healthy movement. If you can't balance on one leg maybe we don't send you to a skate park on your own! If we think there are some deficiencies we will work on them.
  2. If it's an activity I can give you a taste of then then I'll help. I've done a lot of movement over the years and I love trying new things. If I can't then we will do our best to find you a teacher. If you want we can even talk about me doing a class with you!

Goodbye?

If Parkour or the other games we play at Resolve Movement aren't for you that's ok! Hopefully you will have found something that interests you and have been set up for success. Regardless you will still be part of the Resolve Movement family because you made the decision to come to a class and to move! Even if it's not Parkour you are getting out there and moving your body and I'll be happy I played a part in that!
